You hardly ever read about the hero in a story carrying a snub-nose revolver or pocket auto. Except for a few of the Parker books by Donald Westlake (Starke), where they mention a tiny Beretta or two.

Plus, open carry is a massive magnet, IMHO.

Random dude in Vegas open carrying at a pizza parlor: "I'll get to my firearm quicker this way."

Captain Obvious: "Your hands are full. Everyone in the restaurant is watching you now. You'll never see the robber walk up to you and make a grab for your pistol." 🤦‍♂️

Yeah, the closest thing to an exception to that I can think of is James Bond. The originally carried a tiny Beretta. 25, and later upgraded to the famous Walther PPK.

But, yeah, usually heroes are using "hero guns," with writers trying to capture the spirit of excalibur.

Exactly. A powerful man needs a powerful gun. Or big, darn fists. That being the mentality. A real spy would be the man you never suspect. And would probably never need a gun.

"How come there's no coffee this morning?"

"Tim's gone."

"What happened to Tim?"

"Turns out he was a spy for 35 years."

"Not Tim. He was only good for making coffee."

"Exactly."

😳
