Very thorough and enlightening description of hauling milk. Far more involved than I would have originally thought. So glad you're getting family time and particularly glad that you're getting back to writing. I look forward to your future articles and particularly your thoughts about the 32 Ultima carry comparison to the 38 snubby. Keep up the good work. See you soon.

Lost a long time friend about a year ago who'd been a trucker since 1970's. Last 20 hauling milk. Used to call me while on the road ... lots of good stories. Hope it works well for you.

I enjoy the truck content, but what I really like is guns. I predict you’ll like that 432. I have the 632 and it’s outstanding. Also, looks like you’re building an AR with a polymer lower that I don’t recognize. What is it? I built a couple of ARs using Tennessee Arms Co. lowers.

I’ve not heard of KE Arms. I’ll check them out. Thanks.

It's a KE Arms monolithic polymer lower. If you watched the "What Would Stoner Do?" collab between InRange and Forgotten Weapons a few years ago, the KE was the basis of their eventual build. I've wanted one for a long time, and they had a good sale for the holidays.

10-4 fer sure fer sure we got a copy on ya, Type-Writin' Trucker! Gotta thank ya for educating the 4-wheelers about some of the specialized stuff we do out here. You get back with us when the kids remember your name again, and keep the shiny side up!

Load shift is no joke. Glad they are hiring competent people like yourself and not migrants who can’t read the road signs.

Fascinating, Jesse. I never realized the challenge you had with multiple-axes trailers. Love getting insight into trucking.

And I'm looking forward to reading your upcoming firearms reports. 🫡

Being a layman, don't really understand the dump valve system you describe. Time for an AI lesson. I think if I drove a tanker full of milk, I'd be tempted to sample the load.

For a strong temptation, my previous experience in tanking was mostly pulling melted chocolate. 50k lbs of Dove Dark, anyone?

Me!

Very interesting about the heavy haul milk tankers. That is a real skill. I held a CDL 1978 to 2020. With tanker/hazmat endorsements for about 10. Hauled fuel for a few years. After retirement gave it all up due to failing vision in left eye, it wasn't worth the once a year waiver just for bragging rights.

Is it true that if you carry a CDL they ping you harder even on a traffic ticket in your car? I had heard that...

Jesse Slater's avatar

It can definitely happen. There's an aspect of "you should know better." Reckless op, DUI, generally being dumb, even if they don't yank your license can make you unemployable.

It depends on the level of violation, but short answer is yes they can pull your CDL for certain violations in your car. Sometimes though since a CDL implies professionalism some Officers will go with a warning instead of a ticket for minor infractions while off duty.
